    While finishing up my latest essay on what caused 50 years of violence among the Huron Wendat and friends, I came up with something pithy.

    Saginaw is an Algonquian derivation meaning “Where the Sauk are;” If Saginaw means ‘Where the Sauk are’, then Mackinaw must mean ‘Where the Mack are’.
